The messages from the planet are clear, relentless and desperate. It needs help. Now. My mind exploded with ‘Someone has to do something about the way we are managing our natural resources.’ And so I thought I would. But how?

Poking bits of change at a system that is obviously flawed felt uninspiring and ineffective. I believe we can only create radical and lasting change by changing our thinking, and thus our actions at source. The most effective way to do this in times of peace is through our creativity and so HOME was born.

HOME stands for Heart Of My Earth, it invites each of us to create a piece of art inspired by nature. By sharing and selling this art, we can encourage awareness for positive change as well as fund it.

Simply, by reconnecting with nature, sparking our inherent and vital appreciation for our planet, and expressing that in art, we can begin to love and care for our planet of choice. Earth is our ultimate mother without whom we would not exist or survive. We simply cannot continue to abuse her and her offspring and it is time to open to new ways of managing our natural resources for our and our planet’s health.

The first HOME project was inspired by my brother Paul whose existence I learned when I was in my mid twenties. Passionate about the health, and furious about the mismanagement, of our ocean, Paul has spent most of his life protecting our seas and the flora and fauna within. He produces simple pieces of jewelry from objects found on the beach and this sparked the concept of creating one exceptional piece that would build awareness, inspire, and raise funds for the oceans.

Good friend and super talented master jeweller Steven Medhurst agreed to create an extraordinary necklace that expresses the heart and essence of our seas.

We plan to auction this for oodles of money to be donated to Paul’s favourite cause by supporting Paul Watson’s vision for the ocean to safeguard our seas and defend marine life. Captain Paul Watson is a marine wildlife conservation and environmental activist. One of the founding members and directors of Greenpeace, he also founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and more recently the Captain Paul Watson Foundation to continue his legacy.
