The Spleen Official
One of the Twelve Officials, the Spleen, paired with the Stomach, belongs to the Earth Element. Known as the Official in Charge of Transportation and Distribution, the Spleen takes nourishment from the Stomach and distributes it to all parts of our body, mind, and spirit.
As children, we traditionally get loving care from someone, our mother, for example, who sets aside her own needs and gives us kindness and support, food and shelter, as well as physical, emotional, and mental support when we need it. The Spleen has the function of bringing all that nourishment and caring to every cell.
The Spleen is like a fleet of lorries bringing food from farms, processors, and manufacturers to the stores for customers to buy and eat. Without this distribution the food would rot at its source. Everything that needs to be moved within the body is transported by the Spleen. This responsibility of movement extends to the mind and spirit; our minds may be stuck and we may forget things, spiritually we may be unable to receive the warmth and love of Mother Earth, which brings the nourishing, comfortable love of the mother to every part of the body, mind and spirit.
