The Olfactor

The Olfactor is the spirit of our sense of smell and can be a powerful ally in forewarning us of impending danger such as the smell of gas or rotting floorboards before they turn into major incidents, or a relationship that is on the verge of turning rancid. The Olfactor may take us immediately to our past for answers, evoking responses and memories that have remained deeply hidden in our consciousness: the smell of the sea as a child, the chicken soup our mothers cooked, or the hint of jasmine on a summer’s night.

At a physical level, how do our bodies smell, do we need to look at our diet, or are we using damaging chemicals in our homes, gardens, offices or cars? Are we surrounded by the smell of decaying matter or the scent of flower petals? We can smell the difference and make our choice. We often ignore that which is under our noses.

Imagine something that you need information about, a relationship or a new job offer perhaps, and when you see it in your mind’s eye, sniff it out. Does it smell stale or rancid, or fresh and inviting?
