The Kinesthetist

The Kinesthetist is responsible for the sense of touch. In our Western world, with its taboo on touching and connotations of unacceptable sexuality, we are often too scared to reach out in case we are rejected or misunderstood, and then we forget how powerful a simple touch can be.

Encouraging us to feel through touch, the Kinesthetist invites us to sense the clothes we wear, the ground under our feet, the cold, the heat, the smooth and the rough. We can become numbed with the external stimuli bombarding us daily, and it is easy to cut off from feeling the world, including our own bodies.

The Kinesthetist asks you to awaken this often-overlooked sense and increase your awareness of touch. Become conscious of the feel of your clothes as you dress, the touch of a petal, or the texture of a dishcloth. When did you last feel the sun, air, or rain on your skin, or really feel your ears or toes as a child does? When was the last time you gave someone a great, heartfelt hug? When was the last time you gave yourself one?
