The Borrower

The Borrower reminds us to honour our own unique spirit and return, to its original owners, that which no longer serves us.

We copy much from others to help create the person we think we want to be. Whether it is the cute stance of a friend, the confident gestures or language of a celebrity, or the intelligent-sounding belief system of a colleague we admire, we select those to add to our own personas.

Borrowing things from our surroundings, our friends, colleagues, and acquaintances is natural and normal, but unless we do it consciously, and eventually return or integrate what we have borrowed, we may never know what we are expressing, restricting our natural growth and hiding our true selves.

What have you borrowed that now needs to be returned? In your material life, is it a book, a favourite toy, or money? Maybe it is simply someone’s smile, and you ‘borrowed’ that look. Does a particular belief limit your growth and empathy? What did you yearn for when you borrowed these things, and who could you be if you let them go to make the space for you?
